Russian Railways becomes official European sponsor of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™

Russian Railways has been granted the status of the official European sponsor of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

An agreement to this effect was signed by Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, Philippe Le Floc’h, FIFA’s Chief Commercial Officer, and Iain Downie, FIFA’s Director of Marketing, Sales and Strategy.

Russian Railways is organising transportation for the World Cup matches.

At the request of ANO "Transport Directorate-2018", Russian Railways is laying on an additional 728 trips of long-distance passenger trains to provide fans with free transportation. These extra trains will run between the cities hosting the games from 14 June to 15 July on 31 different routes.

Trains will consist of comfortable compartment carriages equipped with air conditioners and environmentally friendly toilet complexes, as well as a dining car.

It is planned to use innovative rolling stock consisting of double-decker carriages, Lastochka electric trains and high-speed Strizh trains.

In total, 75 trains with a total of over 1,100 wagons will be involved in providing free transportation for fans, who have been offered more than 440,000 seats on the extra trains.

To date, more than 200,000 tickets have already been booked, which is almost 50% of the total number of seats.

Fans should bear in mind that booking seats on the additional trains must be done through the website of the World Cup Transport Directorate in Russia.

To qualify for free travel, supporters must also purchase tickets for the World Cup 2018™ matches and register for their Fan ID.

Visitors to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ will be served by 31 railway stations of OJSC Russian Railways in the 11 cities hosting the matches.

The Company is currently completing the modernisation of the stations involved and is also implementing a comprehensive program to ensure transport security at the infrastructure facilities. The programme includes the construction of new inspection zones, the installation of modern inspection equipment at stations and the modernisation of the video surveillance systems.

A new 1.2 km railway line is being constructed on the section from Gumrak station to Volgograd International Airport. The project implementation will result in an electric passenger train link with the city’s airport. Journey time will be about 30 minutes.

The RZD Holding is also providng special training to more than 2,000 employees who work in train crews (conductors and train managers) and more than 3,300 employees at the railway stations which will be servicing visitors to the 2018 World Cup™.

The curriculum gives instructions in interacting correctly and politely with fans from different countries and with low-mobility passengers, as well as programmes on security and international protocol and foreign language instruction. The programme consists of lectures, practical classes and full-time and distance (e)training.
