Railway bridge over the Lena River to be completed before the end of the year

The construction of the railway bridge on the Baikal Amur Main Line across the Lena River is planned for completion by the end of 2017.

The new bridge will ensure the simultaneous unhindered passage of trains along two parallel tracks on this section.

At present, the builders are laying the ballastless bridge road bed. In accordance with the project’s main technical solutions, the new bridge will have 4 span structures with lengths varying from 45 metres to 132 metres.

The total length of the bridge is 417 m. Its construction consists of the so-called northern version, which allows the structure to be operated under the difficult natural and climatic conditions of Russia’s high latitudes.

The construction of the new railway bridge across the River Lena began two years ago and is part of a large-scale investment project to modernise Russia’s railway system in the Far Eastern part of the country.

The bridge will increase the carrying capacity of the Lena-Severobaikalsk section and thus meet the demand of the dynamically growing freight volumes along the Baikal-Amur Mainline and on the entire Far Eastern rail system.

The facility is due to be commissioned in 2018, when the construction of the contact network on the bridge will be completed.

This is the only railway bridge across the Lena River. The facility is located in the city of Ust-Kut on the stretch between Lena-Vostochnaya and the Chechnychny siding.

The Baikal Amur Main Line crosses 11 major rivers and has more than 2,200 large, medium and small bridges.
