The VII International Transport Security Forum began in St. Petersburg on 6 April 2017.

Shevket Shaydullin, Vice-President and the head of the Russian Railways' Traffic Safety and Security Department addressed the Forum's plenary session.

Shaydullin spoke about the main aspects of implementing the Strategy of Guaranteed Safety and Security and Transportation Reliability at the Company.

"Safety and security are key areas for the Russian Railways' Holding," said Shevket Shaydullin, adding that the target for ensuring train safety and security in 2016 was exceeded by 19% compared to 2015.

The Company Vice-President drew attention to the need to determine the responsibility of all participants in the processes affecting the guaranteed level of train safety and security at the legislative level.

Shaydullin also emphasised the development of a safety and security culture at Russian Railways which is based on a safety and security management system, as well as the general principles of Company culture - professionalism in personnel and managerial decisions.

Along with the questions of ensuring train safety and security, the Company senior manager raised the urgent issue of preventing injuries to railway passengers. Since 2010, Russian Railways has therefore invested 24 billion roubles in trauma prevention measures, which in turn has led to a 26% reduction in the number of accidents.

Shaydullin suggested introducing to the school course on basic health and safety training a section on the behaviour rules near and on the railways.

The International Forum Safety in Transport is being held in St. Petersburg on 6 and 7 April 2017.

The Forum's delegates will discuss the most acute issues regarding antiterrorist security and the technological security of the sector on various modes of transport. The two-day Forum will result in proposals for improving legislation and public policy in the field of transport security.

More than 400 delegates are taking part in the Form, including representatives from Russia's federal ministries and departments, authorities from the subjects of the Russian Federation, state corporations, strategic companies, social and public organisations and science and educational institutes.
