Loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 107.1 million tons in April

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the network of Russian Railways amounted to 107.1 million tons in April 2019, 1.9% less than during April last year.

Freight turnover in April 2019 increased by 3.7% compared to April 2018 and amounted to 223.9 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs during the same month was up by 3.2% and amounted to 284.1 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading volumes from January to April 2019 rose slightly to 425.8 million tons, 0.1% more than in the same four-month period last year.

The railways shipped the following categories of freight. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-April 2018:

  • coal – 128 million tons (+1.2%);
  • coke – 3.8 million tons (+3.4%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 79.5 million tons (-0.1%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 39.4 million tons (+6.8%);
  • ferrous metals – 25.7 million tons (-2.8%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 4.2 million tons (+10.3%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 20.3 million tons (+0.4%);
  • cement – 6.97 million tons (+5%);
  • timber – 14.8 million tons (-4.3%);
  • grain – 7.4 million tons (-24.4%);
  • construction materials – 37.96 million tons (-5.1%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur raw materials – 6.26 million tons (-2.9%);
  • chemicals and soda – 8.85 million tons (-2.6%);
  • industrial feedstock and moulded materials – 11.1 million tons (-0.4%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2019 amounted to 875.9 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 2.7%. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs also increased by 2.7%, rising to 1,116.7 billion ton-km.
