Grain loading for export on the Russian Railways’ rail network up 73% in 8 months to end of August 2018

Loading of grain in January-August 2018 on the network owned and operated by Russian Railways amounted to more than 17.9 million tons, 44% more than in the same period of 2017.

More than 11 million tons of grain were shipped for export, a big increase of 73.2% compared to the same months in 2017.

The highest figures for grain loading during January to August were recorded in the regions of Saratov (about 1.5 million tons, up by a factor of 2.2), Kursk (1.35 million tons, an increase of 36.7%), Tambov (1.13 million tons, up by 94.7%), Volgograd (more than 1 million tons, a rise of 52.2%), and Lipetsk (more than 1 million tons, up by 81.5%).

In addition, the highest increases in loading volumes in the 8 months to the end of August 2018 were achieved in such fertile regions as Orenburg (835,000 tons, an increase of 2.7 times), Samara (479,200 tons, up by a factor of 2.7), Ulyanovsk (283,400 tons, an increase of 3.1 times) and Novosibirsk (435,800 tons, up by a factor of 2.4 times).

In order to attract additional volumes of freight to rail, the Company Board decided to establish a decreasing coefficient of 0.929, which is equivalent to a 7.1% discount on the tariffs for grain exports sourced from the stations located in the Voronezh, Orel, Tambov, Orenburg, Saratov, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Kursk, Lipetsk, Penza, Samara, Ulyanovsk and Kurgan regions through Russian ports on their own rolling stock and containers.

The discount applies to wheat, rye, oats, barley, corn, rice, buckwheat, beans, peas, beans and other grains and will be valid until 31 December 2018 inclusive.
