Loading on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 2% in August 2018

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the network owned by OJSC Russian Railways amounted to 108.4 million tons in August 2018, 2% more than in the same month last year.

Freight turnover in August 2018 increased by 4.4% compared to August 2017 and amounted to 217.9 billion tariff ton-kilometres.

Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs during the same month increased by 4.2% to 276.5 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading during the eight months from January to August 2018 was up to 857.8 million tons, 2.9% more than during the same period last year.

The railways shipped the following categories of goods. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January to August 2017:

  • coal – 247 million tons (+5.4%);
  • coke – 7.3 million tons (-3.2%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 156.7 million tons (no change);
  • iron and manganese ores – 77.3 million tons (+5.4%);
  • ferrous metals – 52.5 million tons (+10.8%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 10 million tons (+1.2%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 39.5 million tons (+4.1%);
  • cement – 17.2 million tons (-6.8%);
  • timber – 31.2 million tons (+3.8%);
  • grain – 17.9 million tons (+44.1%);
  • construction materials – 85.2 million tons (-5.6%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphuric feedstock – 13.5 million tons (-2%);
  • chemicals and soda – 17.7 million tons (+2.3%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 23.8 million tons (-2.5%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2018 amounted to 1,718.6 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 4.6%.

Freight turnover empty wagon runs during the same period amounted to 2,186.7 billion ton-km, up by 4.4%.
