Oleg Belozerov: “Cooperation between Russia and France on the railway sector is developing
dynamically and successfully”
A Russia-France business dialogue has been held with the participation of the President
of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of the French Republic
The event took place at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on 25 May
2018 and was also attended by representatives of business circles from Russia and
Oleg Belozerov, co-chairman of the Russia-France Business Cooperation Council and
CEO and President of the Board of Russian Railways, said in his address that the Council’s
work was aimed entirely at promoting the interests of the Russian and French business
communities and helping to strengthen direct contacts between state and private companies
in the two countries.
“We strive to consider and support all the constructive proposals which business
puts forward and are always ready to assist in the organisation of French business
missions to Russia’s regions,” said Oleg Belozerov.
According to the head of Russian Railways, cooperation between Russia and France
in the railway sector was developing dynamically and successfully.
Thanks to the acquisition of the French logistics company GEFCO, the RZD holding
is now represented in several dozen countries around the world, and GEFCO is successfully
developing the business space in countries using the broad gauge 1520 mm railway track.
Together with the French national railway company SNCF (Société Nationale
des Chemins de fer Français), Russian Railways is consistently implementing
a comprehensive “road map” for cooperation in the field of rail freight
and passenger transportation, railway station facilities, digital technologies and
infrastructure projects in third countries.
Oleg Belozerov also said that another very positive result of cooperation with
his French counterparts was the new-generation Olympus electric passenger locomotive
now being manufactured jointly by Transmashholding and Alstom.
The CEO of Russian Railways believes that great potential for the development of
cooperation with French partners is also being laid in the field of high-speed communications,
especially in view of the fact that France is one of the recognised world leaders
in this field.
“French experts advised us on the design of the Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway,
and we are now working on the prospects for cooperation within the framework of the
Eurasia global high-speed freight and passenger project, which will drive both development
across the continent and the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI),”
said Oleg Belozerov.
