Russian Railways purchased 459 new locomotives in 2017


Under its 2017 investment programme, Russian Railways spend 58.5 billion roubles last year onupgrading its locomotive fleet.

The Company purchased a total of 459 new locomotives and took delivery of 220 electric locomotives,including 21 passenger engines consisting of 4 EP1M units, 13 EP2K units and 4 EP20 units, as well as199 freight engines consisting of 84 2ES6 units, 10 2ES10 units, 51 2ES5K units, 45 3ES5K units, 4 3ES4Kunits and 5 4ES5K units.

The Holding also acquired 239 diesel locomotives, including 19 TEP70BS passenger engines, 86 2TE25KMfreight engines and 134 shunting engines consisting of 101 TEM18DM units and 33 TEM14 units.

The largest number of locomotives was delivered to the locomotive depots Kandalaksha, which received51 2ES5K and 3ES5K electric locomotives, Chita (45 2ES5K and 3ES5K electric locomotives), Yershov (492TE25KM freight locomotives), Chelyabinsk (32 2ES6 freight locomotives), Kinel (27 2ES6 electriclocomotives) and St. Petersburg-Finland (37 TEM18DM shunting locomotives).
