RZD Holding completes reconstruction of Resnik – Valevo section in Serbia

On 15 November 2017, a ceremony was held to celebrate the launch of services along the reconstructed Resnik – Valevo section of the Belgrade (Serbia) – Bar (Montenegro) railway line.

The ceremony was held at Valjevo station in Serbia and was attended by Zoran Mikhailovich, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, and Alexander Misharin, First Vice President of Russian Railways.

Alexander Misharin expressed his great appreciation with regard to the cooperation between the RZD Holding and its Serbian partners and stressed that the Holding always strives to carry out its work at a high-quality level and observe the terms stipulated in the contract.

The reconstruction of the Resnik – Valevo stretch was thus completed on schedule after work began in July 2016.

Zorana Mikhailovich concurred, noting the high quality of the work performed and expressing her confidence in the success of further cooperation within the framework of the agreements reached.

The reconstruction of the Resnik – Valevo section was carried out by RZD International, a subsidiary of Russian Railways. The work included the reconstruction of the roadbed, the upper structure of the track, two tunnels, 17 bridges, the contact network and the signalling and telecommunications systems. In addition, all infrastructure facilities along the railway were repaired, including ten stations.

Following completion of the work, the Resnik – Valevo site meets all modern safety requirements and enables passenger trains to travel at speeds of up to 110 kph.

The project cost about 80 million US dollars.

On 15 November 2017, RZD International LLC and Serbian Railways Infrastructure JSC also signed an supplementary agreement to the main contract for the reconstruction, modernisation and construction of a double-track railway between Stara Pazova – Novi Sad, a railway section of over 40 km that is part of the Belgrade – Budapest line.

The document provides for the construction of a double-track railway line, three viaducts, a tunnel and 19 bridges and overpasses, as well as 36 small bridges.

Beshka station will also be fully rebuilt. Sremski Karlovci, Injia, Petrovoradin stations with underground passages and one stopping point will be reconstructed.

The cost of the project will be more than 247 million US dollars.

The work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2018.
