Loading on the network of Russian Railways increased by 1.8% in September 2017

According to the latest figures, the loading volume on the network of Russian Railways in September 2017 amounted to 103.8 million tons, 1.8% more than in September 2016.

Freight turnover in September 2017 increased by 4.2% compared to September 2016 and amounted to 203.3 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover in September 2017 taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 4.2% and rose to 258.8 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading during January-September 2017 amounted to 937.3 million tons, 2.8% more than in the same period last year.

Russian Railways shipped the following categories of freight during January-September 2017. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to the same period in 2016.

  • coal – 262.96 million tons (+9.3%);
  • coke – 8.4 million tons (-3.6%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 175.2 million tons (+0.2%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 82.4 million tons (-0.2%);
  • ferrous metals – 53.5 million tons (+1.2%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 11.5 million tons (+4.1%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 42.5 million tons (+7.9%);
  • cement – 21.2 million tons (-0.7%);
  • timber – 33.4 million tons (+3.8%);
  • grain – 14.6 million tons (+12.3%);
  • construction materials – 101.9 million tons (-8.3%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 15.3 million tons (-4.9%);
  • chemicals and soda – 19.3 million tons (+2.1%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 27.4 million tons (+5.6%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2017 amounted to 1,845.9 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 6.6%. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs was 2,353.7 billion ton-km, up 6.3%.
