Loading on the Russian Railways' network in April 2017 increased by 3.9%

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the Russian Railways' network in April 2017 amounted to 105.3 million tons, 3.9% more than in April 2016.

Freight turnover in April 2017 increased by 8% compared to April 2016, rising to 205 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs during the same month increased by 7.4% to 261.2 billion ton-km.

Loading during January-April 2017 amounted to 410.4 million tons according to the latest figures, 3.8% more than during the same four months last year.

The railways loaded the following items of freight during January to April 2017. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January to April 2016:

  • coal – 119.9 million tons (+9.2%);
  • coke – 3.7 million tons (+3.5%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 80.5 million tons (+1%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 35.6 million tons (-0.6%);
  • ferrous metals – 23.9 million tons (+0.1%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 4.1 million tons (+11.9%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 19 million tons (+5.7%);
  • cement – 6.9 million tons (-1.4%);
  • timber – 15 million tons (+3.7%);
  • grain – 6.7 million tons (+1.8%);
  • construction materials – 40 million tons (-3.7%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 6.7 million tons (-0.5%);
  • chemicals and soda – 8.9 million tons (+2.7%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 11 million tons (+14.1%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2017 amounted to 813 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 7.5% on the comparable period in 2016, while freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs was up to 1,040.8 billion ton-km, an increase of 7.2%.
