Passenger numbers to foreign countries increased by 16.5% in I Quarter 2017

Passenger numbers on long-distance trains on international routes to countries in Russia's far-abroad increased by 16.5% in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same quarter last year and amounted to more than 143,300.

The largest increase was recorded between Russia - Finland, which was up 27.6%, Russia - Germany (+ 27.3%), Russia - Italy (+ 16.8%) and Russia - China (+ 11.8%).

According to the train timetable for 2016/2017, direct and transit international passenger services are offered to 11 countries in Europe and Asia - Germany, France, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Monaco, Italy, Finland, China and Mongolia on 20 international routes.

To meet the ever-increasing demand for passenger transport by rail between Russia and Europe, including between Russia and Germany, train No. 13/14 Strizh Moscow-Berlin came into service in December 2016.

Since the service was launched, the train has carried 7,257 passengers, including 5,170 passengers in the first quarter of 2017, and runs twice a week, departing from Moscow on Saturdays and Sundays and from Berlin on Sundays and Mondays. The train is distinguished by its automatic system for changing the gauge of wheel sets, which has been fitted to carriages on a passenger train for the first time and enables the train to switch from the broad gauge Russian standard of 1520 mm to the narrow European track of 1435 mm at the Brest station in Belarus.

As a result, the time spent at Brest to switch between the two gauges has been greatly reduced.

The introduction of technical innovations in the train's design has made it possible to increase the comfort of passengers en route. In particular, the effect of centrifugal force on the passengers is reduced when the train takes tight bends.

Each train includes 20 carriages of various classes manufactured by the Spanish company Patentes Talgo S.L.
