Russian Railways developing transport infrastructure on North - South corridor
OJSC Russian Railways will spend 1.9 billion roubles in 2017 on implementing the investment project "Integrated Reconstruction of the Trubnaya - Upper Baskunchak - Aksaraiskaya section."
This year, it is planned to commission 14 km of the second track on the Leninsk - Zaplavnoe stretch and open Aksaraiskaya Station-2 following the reconstruction of the locomotive technical maintenance and service point. The construction of the bridge across the river Akhtuba will continue, as will work on lengthening the tracks at Volzhsky station.
Since the beginning of the project, Russian Railways has invested over 6.6 billion roubles and commissioned 67 kilometres of railway track, including 56 km of the second track on the station-to-station blocks and 11 km of station tracks.
The project is being implemented in two stages. The first phase is the construction of the second track on the Trubnaya - Akhtuba section, which has a total length of 126.3 km, along with the extension of the receiving-departure tracks at the adjacent stations and the construction of a bridge across the river Akhtuba.
The second phase will see the electrification of the Trubnaya - Aksaraiskaya line, which is part of the North - South International Transport Corridor and provides transport and economic links between the Urals, Siberia and Russia's North-West and Central regions with the country's southern regions, the Caspian Sea ports, Kazakhstan and the republics of the Caucasus.
