RZD Holding to complete the reconstruction of Bujanovac - Bukarevac stretch in Serbia
ahead of schedule
RZD International Ltd., a subsidiary of Russian Railways, has completed work on
the Bujanovac - Bukarevats stretch in Serbia, which is the first of the three southern
stretches on the X Trans-European Transport Corridor.
The reconstruction of the 14-kilometre Bujanovac - Bukarevats stretch was completed
one month ahead of the schedule agreed in the contractual terms.
During the work, the lower and upper track was completely replaced, 5 switch assemblies
laid, 13 railway crossings reconstructed and two stations reconstructed. In addition,
low platforms, a drainage system, the contact network and control and communication
systems were reconstructed.
As a result of the reconstruction, train speeds increased to 120 kph.
For the first time in Serbia, a model for the construction and installation work
was used which involved a regime of 36-hour technological windows. This avoided cancelling
completely train services.
In addition, during the period of peak traffic from mid-June to late August, passenger
services continued without any interruptions.
RZD International continues its work on the reconstruction of the Vinarci - Đurđevo
line, while work on the Vranjska Banja - Ristovac stretch is scheduled to be completed
in the near future.
The cost of the construction and modernisation project on the three southern sections
of Corridor X is more than USD 38 million and is being finance by a Russian government
The X Trans-European Transport Corridor runs from north to south through Salzburg,
Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Niš, Skopje, Veles and Thessaloniki.
