RZD Holding to complete the reconstruction of Bujanovac - Bukarevac stretch in Serbia ahead of schedule

RZD International Ltd., a subsidiary of Russian Railways, has completed work on the Bujanovac - Bukarevats stretch in Serbia, which is the first of the three southern stretches on the X Trans-European Transport Corridor.

The reconstruction of the 14-kilometre Bujanovac - Bukarevats stretch was completed one month ahead of the schedule agreed in the contractual terms.

During the work, the lower and upper track was completely replaced, 5 switch assemblies laid, 13 railway crossings reconstructed and two stations reconstructed. In addition, low platforms, a drainage system, the contact network and control and communication systems were reconstructed.

As a result of the reconstruction, train speeds increased to 120 kph.

For the first time in Serbia, a model for the construction and installation work was used which involved a regime of 36-hour technological windows. This avoided cancelling completely train services.

In addition, during the period of peak traffic from mid-June to late August, passenger services continued without any interruptions.

RZD International continues its work on the reconstruction of the Vinarci - Đurđevo line, while work on the Vranjska Banja - Ristovac stretch is scheduled to be completed in the near future.

The cost of the construction and modernisation project on the three southern sections of Corridor X is more than USD 38 million and is being finance by a Russian government credit.

The X Trans-European Transport Corridor runs from north to south through Salzburg, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Niš, Skopje, Veles and Thessaloniki.
