RZD Holding begins reconstruction of Belgrade - Bar railway line

Alexander Misharin, First Vice-President of Russian Railways, and Zoran Mikhailovich, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, have taken part in the opening ceremony to launch works on the Resnik - Valjevo rail section.

The ceremony was held at the Vreotsi station in Serbia on 15 July 2016.

The work on the 77.6 km Resnik - Valjevo stretch is the first stage in the reconstruction of the Belgrade (Serbia) - Bar (Montenegro) railway line, which is part of Trans-European Transport Corridor XI.

The Belgrade - Bar railway line is also the longest in Serbia, with a total length of 287 km to the border with Montenegro.

No repairs have been carried out on the line since it was commissioned forty years ago.

To ensure that modern safety requirements are met and high speeds achieved on the Resnik - Valjevo stretch, RZD International Ltd. will carry out the reconstruction of the roadbed, the upper track structure, two tunnels and seventeen bridges, the catenary and the signalling and telecommunications systems. It will also carry out maintenance on all the infrastructure facilities along the railway line, including ten stations. A number of construction and installation works will be carried out by Serbian companies and subcontractors.

Alexander Misharin, First Vice-President of Russian Railways, thanked the Serbian government and his Serbian railway colleagues for their support and effective cooperation.

Misharin stressed that the reconstruction of the Resnik - Valjevo railway stretch will increase the maximum speed of passenger trains on this part of the line from 50 kph to 120 kph.
