RZD Holding launches three sections of X Trans-European Transport Corridor in Serbia ahead of schedule
RZD International Ltd., a subsidiary of Russian Railways, has completed the reconstruction of the three northern sections of the X Trans-European Transport Corridor in the Republic of Serbia.
The total length of the reconstructed railway stretches is over 65 km: Sopot Kosmaysky –Kovachevats (18 km), Mala Krsna – Velika Plan (29 km) and Ruma – Golubinci (18 km).
The total cost of the reconstruction these three stretches amounted to USD 48.7 million.
As a result of the reconstruction, train speed on these stretches has increased from 30 kph to 120 kph.
The reconstruction was finished ahead of the schedule laid down in the contract. As the client, JSC Serbian Railways Infrastructure set a deadline for work to be completed by February 2017. The early commissioning of the tracks was made possible by organisational solutions, as well as the use of modern and efficient Russian technology and equipment for railway track reconstruction.
Since March 2014, RZD International has been implementing a contract to carry out the construction and reconstruction of railway infrastructure in Serbia. The contract was concluded in the framework of an agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Serbia to provide the Republic of Serbia with a state export credit of USD 800 million. The total contract was worth USD 941 million.
The X Trans-European Transport Corridor connects Salzburg in Austria with Thessaloniki in Greece via Zagreb, Belgrade and Skopje. The increase in speed along the Serbian section of the corridor, which is one of the major traffic arteries in Europe, will lead to a significant increase in freight traffic passing through the territory of Serbia.
