Russian Railways' network loaded 101.4 million tons in April 2016

According to the latest figures, loading on the Russian Railways' network amounted to 101.4 million tons of freight in April 2016, 1.6% more than in April 2015.

Freight turnover in April 2016 increased compared to the same month last year by 2.2% and reached 189.6 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs during the same month increased by 1.9% and amounted to 242.9 billion ton-kilometres.

According to the latest figures, loading in January-April 2016 amounted to 395.3 million tons, which is 0.9% more than in the same months of 2015.

The railways loaded the following goods. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-April 2015:

  • coal – 109.8 million tons (+3.8%);
  • coke – 3.6 million tons (-2.5%);
  • petroleum and petroleum products – 79.7 million tons (-7.9%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 35.9 million tons (-1.5%);
  • ferrous metals – 23.8 million tons (-2.7%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 3.7 million tons (-18.2%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 18 million tons (+5.3%);
  • cement – 7 million tons (-7.9%);
  • timber – 14.5 million tons (+4.4%);
  • grain – 6.6 million tons (+13.1%);
  • construction materials – 41.6 million tons (+21.5%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 6.7 million tons (+4.9%);
  • chemicals and soda – 8.7 million tons (+2.1%);
  • industrial feedstock and moulded materials – 9.6 million tons (-6.1%).

Since the beginning of 2016, freight turnover amounted to 755.8 billion tariff ton-km, a rise of 0.9%. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs amounted to 970.6 billion ton-km, an increase of 0.8%.
