Head of Russian Railways and Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Prime Minister discuss cooperation in the railway sector
Oleg Belozerov, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, and Achilbai Ramatov, Uzbekistan First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, met to discuss issues of cooperation in the railway sector. The meeting took place in Moscow and on 22 May 2019.
The two sides noted an increase in foreign trade freight traffic between Russia and Uzbekistan. In 2018, the volume of this traffic increased by 2% compared with the previous year and amounted to 6.8 million tons.
Oleg Belozerov stressed that 63% of transit containers in 2018 were transported in the East-West direction by Russian Railways, an increase of 34% compared to 2017. A significant increase in container traffic was also recorded in shipments with the countries of Central Asia, which were up 36% on the previous year. The CEO of Russian Railways said that one of the factors affecting the increase in the volume of transit cargo was the constant work on the special tariff conditions which the Company offered.
During the meeting, Oleg Belozerov and Achilbai Ramatov also discussed joint participation in railway infrastructure projects aimed at the development of transit freight transportation, including between China-Europe-China.
In addition, the parties expressed their willingness to cooperate on the exchange of existing experience in the preparation of high-speed rail projects.
