Loading volumes on the Russian Railways’ network increased by 4.6% in October 2017

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways in October 2017 amounted to 108.1 million tons, 4.6% more than during October 2016.

Freight turnover during October 2017 increased by 5.9% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 214.8 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon run during October 2017 increased by 5.3% and amounted to 273.8 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading for January-October 2017 amounted to 1,045.4 billion tons, 3% more than during the same period last year.

The railways shipped the following categories of freight. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-October 2016.

  • coal – 294.2 million tons (+9.6%);
  • coke – 9.3 million tons (-4.3%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 194.4 million tons (+0.1%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 91.3 million tons (-0.2%);
  • ferrous metals – 59.7 million tons (+2%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 13.1 million tons (+3.9%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 47.3 million tons (+7.9%);
  • cement – 23.6 million tons (-0.2%);
  • timber – 36.7 million tons (+4.1%);
  • grain – 17.1 million tons (+14.5%);
  • construction materials – 113.5 million tons (-7.8%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphuric feedstock – 17 million tons (-5.1%);
  • chemicals and soda – 21.5 million tons (+2.6%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 30.6 million tons (+5.2%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2017 amounted to 2,061.1 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 6.5%. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs were up to 2,627.8 billion ton-km, a rise of 6.2%.
