Passenger traffic on the network of Russian Railways increased by almost 10% in 1H 2017

According to the latest figures, in June 2017, the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 99.7 million passengers, 8.9% more than in June 2016. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 89.7 million, an increase of 9.9%, while long-distance passengers were up 0.6% to 10 million.

Passenger turnover in June 2017 amounted to 12.4 billion passenger-kilometres, 2.2% less than in June 2016. Passenger turnover in suburban traffic rose to 2.9 billion pass-km, an increase of 1.6%, while long-distance passenger turnover fell to 9.5 billion pass-km, a decline of 3.3%.

In January-June 2017, 530.3 million passengers were transported, an increase of 9.6% compared to January-June 2016. Long-distance passengers amounted to 45.5 million, up 0.3%, while suburban passenger numbers increased 10.6% to 484.8 million.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways' network since the beginning of 2017 decreased by 1.1% to the level of the previous year and amounted to 53.2 billion passenger-km. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 15.1 billion pass-km, up 3.3%, while long-distance passenger turnover fell to 38.1 billion pass-km, a decline of 2.7%.

The Moscow Central Ring (MCC) transported almost 50.3 million passengers in the first half of the year.

In June 2017, about 9 million passengers used the services of the Lastochka electric trains on the MCC.

The record number of passengers travelling on the Moscow Central Ring since its launch on 10 September 2016 was set on 18 May 2017, when 379,666 people were transported.
