Russian Railways Holding to help build railway line in Mongolia
Sergey Stolyarov, the acting Managing Director of Russian Railways International, and Damdinsuren Jigjidynymaa, the head of Ulan-Bator Railways, have signed a contract for the provision of technical consulting services regarding the construction of the Tawan-Tolgoi - Zuunbayan railway line in Mongolia.
The document was signed in the presence of the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and the Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh in Moscow on 3 December 2019.
According to the agreement, Russian Railways International LLC, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, will provide technical consulting services, in partnership with one of Russia’s design institutes, for the implementation of the Tavan-Tolgoi-Suunbayan railway line project and in addition develop recommendations on the organisation of the construction work and the running of the trains on the 414 km line.
The new railway line will be connected to the central railway line of the Ulan Bator Railway. This will open up new opportunities for the transportation of coking coal from Tavan Tolgoi, a large coal mine in southern Mongolia.
The contract is due to be completed in 12 months.
