Loading on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.6% in May 2018

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways in May 2018 amounted to 110.3 million tons, 3.6% more than in May last year.

Freight turnover during May 2018 increased by 4.4% compared to May 2017 and amounted to 218.8 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 4.4% during the same month and amounted to 277.8 billion ton-km.

Loading during January-May 2018, according to the latest figures, amounted to 534.9 million tons, 3.5% more than in the same period last year.

During January-May 2018, the railways shipped the following categories of freight. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-May 2017.

  • coal – 156.8 million tons (+5%);
  • coke – 4.5 million tons (-3.9%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 98.8 million tons (-0.2%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 46.8 million tons (+3.7%);
  • ferrous metals – 33 million tons (+11%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 5.3 million tons (-4.8%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 25.3 million tons (+6.3%);
  • cement – 9.2 million tons (-4.1%);
  • timber – 19.6 million tons (+2.6%);
  • grain – 12.3 million tons (+51.8%);
  • construction materials – 51.9 million tons (-1.4%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 8.2 million tons (-3.2%);
  • chemicals and soda – 11.3 million tons (+2.4%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 14.4 million tons (-1.2%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2018 amounted to 1,071.2 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 4.7%, while freight turnover including empty wagon runs was 1,364.9 billion ton-km, up by 4.4%.
