Passenger numbers on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 0.4% in October

According to the latest figures, almost 106.1 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways in October2019, 0.4% more than in the same month last year. Suburban and commuter passengers amounted to about 97 million, which is almost in line with last year’s figure, while long-distance passenger numbers rose 7% to more than 9 million.

Passenger turnover in October 2019 amounted to 10 billion passenger-kilometres, 1.6% more than in the same month in 2018. Suburban traffic passenger turnover amounted to 3 billion pass-km, a slight decline of 1.2%, while long-distance passenger turnover increased by 2.9% to almost 7 billion pass-km.

A total of 1.27 billion passengers travelled in January-October 2019, up 3.8% on the same period in 2018. Long-distance passenger numbers rose to 99.3 million, an increase of 5.7%, while suburban passengers were up to 903.4 million, a rise of 3.6%.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network increased by 3% from January to October 2019 compared to the same period in the previous year and amounted to 114.6 billion pass-km. Passenger turnover on suburban and commuter services in January-October amounted to 28.8 billion pass-km, a rise of 3.9%, while long-distance passenger turnover stood at 85.8 billion pass-km, up 2.7%.

Since the beginning of 2019, 120.3 million passengers have travelled on the Moscow Central Ring (MCC), 14.2% more than in the same period last year. Since the Moscow Central Ring began operations on 19 September 2016, it has carried almost 387.3 million passengers. A record number of passengers on the MCC was recorded on 3 April 2019, when it carried 561,956 people.
