RZD Holding expands its carriage fleet for people with disabilities
The OJSC Federal Passenger Company will continue to purchase specialised rolling
stock for low-mobility passengers in 2017.
At the moment, OJSC Federal Passenger Company has a total of 615 carriages with
compartments for disabled people and 609 carriages equipped with lifting devices for
persons with disabilities.
During 2017, the Company plans to purchase an additional 13 carriages which have
a compartment for wheelchair users. In addition, 30 carriages will be modernised and
retrofitted with specialised compartments.
Specialised carriages are equipped with a compartment designed for the transportation
of one wheelchair passenger and an accompanying person. The design provides for an
increased door width to facilitate greater movement in a wheelchair, lifts for wheelchair
users, and an increased area around the door.
The Mobility Assistance Centre at Russian Railways works 24/7 and provides help
to low-mobility passengers, such as accompanying disabled passengers on the station
territory and aiding them when boarding trains, as well as processing tickets.
To obtain information about the services provided to passengers with reduced physical
capabilities, to reserve seats in trains and to apply for escort and assistance at
railway stations and when boarding trains, call 8-800-510-11-11 or write to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the absence of a carriage with seats for disabled persons on a train, such a
car can be included in the train at the passenger's request, which should be submitted
through the Russian Railways' Mobility Assistance Centre or ticket office.
Passengers are recommended to submit their request before tickets go on sale 60
days before their train's departure.
Requests submitted after the start of ticket sales, including if seats in the specified
compartment have already been booked, are also considered, but in this case, the possibilities
for making a positive decision are reduced substantially.
Requests are considered in not more than 5 working days in the case of submissions
before tickets go on sale and no more than 10 working days after ticket sales have
In addition, for wheelchair users electronic tickets are on sale on the Russian
Railways' website. To purchase a ticket, first register with the Russian Railways'
Mobility Assistance Centre by sending the necessary documents to the e-mail address
email@example.com or contact a ticket office.
Passengers can purchase tickets remotely with deferred payment by applying to the
Mobility Assistance Centre of OJSC Russian Railways for a ticket.
The application and the application form for the electronic ticket are processed
within two hours, after which the passenger is sent the number of the electronic ticket's
ID-order, together with the requisites of the electronic ticket and an electronic
payment invoice for payment which contains a link to the payment page.
The order must be paid within 24 hours.
