"Complying with delivery deadlines is one of the keyparameters in transport services" says CEO of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov

The members states of the Council on Railway Transport of the Commonwealth transported 1.5 billion tons of freight in the first nine months of 2019, down 0.6% compared to the same period in 2018, although container shipments increased by 14.3%, said Oleg Belozerov, the Chairman of the Council and the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board Russian Railways. Belozorov was speaking in the Belarusian capital Minsk at the organisation’s 71st meeting.

"We have achieved this result by, among other things, systematic work on diversifying routes, applying new technologies and harmonising legal conditions, including tariff regulation and reducing transit times," said Belozerov.

According to the Company CEO, attracting international transit to the 1520 transport networkspace has huge potential. Working towards that aim requires the members of the Rail Transport Board constantly to rethink their approaches, focus on the competitive environment, and actively use the traditional advantages of the railways, in particular, delivery speeds and new technological capabilities such as digitalisation.

"I see the task of increasing the competitiveness of International Transport Corridors (ITCs) in effective work in such key areas as logistics development, digitalisation and customer orientation," said Oleg Belozerov.

The head of the Council stressed that compliance with delivery times is one of the key parameters in transport services and that train and wagon delays at borders and docking point shave a very negative impact on the quality of the end-to-end rail service.
