Alexander Misharin takes part in meeting of Russian and Armenian transport ministers
First Deputy of Russian Railways" Managing Director Alexander Misharin has taken
part in a meeting between Yevgeny Dietrich, the Minister of Transport of the Russian
Federation, and Akob Arshakyan, the Acting Minister of Transport, Communication and
Information Technologies of the Republic of Armenia.
The participants in the meeting discussed issues related to the activities of South
Caucasus Railways (SCR), a subsidiary of Russian Railways which has been managing
Armenian Railways since 2008, as well as SCR’s future plans.
Akob Arshakyan noted that SCR’s activities and the Company’s investments
in development are primarily aimed at supporting the Armenian economy. The Russian
side has invested heavily in the development of the Republic of Armenia’s railway
infrastructure.
The measures to develop passenger traffic were positively noted, in particular,
the acquisition of two modern EP2D electric trains in 2018, one of which has been
in service between Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan since summer this year. The second will
enter service on the same route in the first quarter of 2019.
