Vladimir Putin addresses III Railway Congress

RU EN

The Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the plenary session of the III Railway Congress, which is being held in Moscow.

President Putin noted that "the dynamics of the development of the whole country, the quality of the national economy and its global competitiveness depend greatly on the work of Russia’s railways. The tasks facing the industry therefore require priority and constant attention and the coordinated actions of the state, the regions, business and, of course, the key participant on the market - the Company Russian Railways."

"Today, Russian Railways is Russia's leading service company and is competing for the world’s flows of freight traffic. It is the largest corporate employer in the country, as well as one of the main customers for engineering products and those from many other sectors of the economy. It is important that Russian Railways systematically increases its efficiency and labour productivity. During the last 5 years, it has increased productivity by one third, this year it will rise by 9%, and according to the plan for 2018, it will rise by another 5% next year," said Vladimir Putin in his speech.

Earlier in the day, Vladimir Putin also visited a repair and equipment depot at the Moscow-Kievskaya railway station.
