Russian Railways is the most energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly railway
company in the world
According to estimates by the International Energy Agency and the International

At 30.5%, transport accounts for about one third of all greenhouse gas emissions

However, Russia’s railways account for only about 1% of these emissions.

Emission Reduction Programme in carrying out its activities.
This year, taking into account indirect emissions from the use of heat and electricity,
the Company achieved a decrease of 45.7% in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990
levels while the traffic volumes remain broadly comparable.
