Electronic ticket sales increase by a quarter in 9 months
During January-September 2018, 49 million e-tickets for long-distance trains were
sold, 24% more than in the same nine months of last year.
Electronic tickets accounted for 51% of the total number of seats/berths sold as
a whole on the railway network.
The increase in electronic sales is due, among other things, to the active development
of online services for passengers, who can now use the Russian Railways’ website
to book tickets to the Kaliningrad region, tickets for wheelchair users with limited
mobility and obtain electronic receipts for transporting additional hand luggage,
baggage and pets etc.
In addition, travellers have been able to use the official mobile app "Passengers"
since April 2017 to book tickets and obtain information about train timetables, their
previously acquired tickets and the status of their bonus account etc.
As of today, the app has been installed on over 4.6 million mobile platforms.
The number of tickets booked in the first 9 months of 2018 reached almost 5.8 million,
which is equivalent to 11.6% of all electronic sales.
This is a sharp increase on 2017, when 2.9 million e-tickets were issued using
the RZD Passengers mobile app during the whole year.
