Russian Railways and Indian Railways sign agreement to develop feasibility study for Nagpur-Secunderabad project

RU EN

Russian Railways' President Oleg Belozerov and the Indian Ambassador to Russia Mr. Pankaj Saran have signed an agreement between India's Ministry of Railways and Russian Railways on the preparation of a feasibility study for a high-speed rail service between Nagpur and Secunderabad in India.

The signing took place on 1 June 2017 in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Russia on an official visit.

Under the agreement, Russian Railways and Indian Railways have agreed to joint activities to develop a feasibility study for the modernisation of the 575-km Nagpur-Secunderabad railway line in order to increase the speed of passenger trains to 200 kph.

Russian Railways and India's Ministry of Railways had previously signed a protocol on cooperation in the field of high-speed rail services within the framework of the VIII BRICS Summit on 15 October 2016.

The protocol was drawn up in the development of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 24 December 2015.
