Passenger traffic on Russian Railways’ network up 6.1% in September 2017


According to the latest figures, 98.6 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure of Russian Railways in September 2017, 6.1% more than in September 2016. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 90.1 million passengers, an increase of 6.6%, while long-distance passengers rose slightly to 8.5 million, up 0.5%.

Passenger turnover in September 2017 amounted to 10.9 billion pass-km, 2.8% fewer than in September 2016. Passenger turnover in suburban commuter traffic amounted to 2.8 billion passenger-km, an increase of 1.5%, while long-distance passenger turnover was down to 8.1 billion pass-km, a decrease of 4.2%.

During January-September 2017, a total of 834.8 million passengers travelled, 9% more than during January-September 2016. Long-distance passengers amounted to 78.8 million, a fall of 0.5%, while suburban numbers jumped 10.1% to 755.95 million.

Passenger turnover on the network of Russian Railways since the beginning of 2017 decreased by 2.3% compared to last year and amounted to 96.1 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover increased to 24 billion passenger-km, up 3.1%, while long-distance turnover was down 4% to 72.1 billion pass-km.

During January-September 2017, the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) transported 78.1 million passengers, including about 10.1 million in September.

On 27 September 2017, a new record was set when 414,551 passengers travelled on the MCC, the highest figure since it was launched on 10 September 2016.
