RZD Holding expands cooperation on transport construction with ASEAN countries

During his address to the Russia-ASEAN Business Dialogue at the Third Eastern Economic Forum on 6 September 2017, Alexander Misharin, First Vice-President of Russian Railways, spoke about the current and prospective projects of the RZD Holding in the ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines,

Misharin noted in particular that on the Indonesian infrastructure market, the RZD Holding is represented by a subsidiary company, the project company PT Kereta Api Borneo, which is building a universal transhipment complex on the island of Kalimantan.

“In accordance with our schedule, we need to launch the project in 2019,” said the First Vice-President of Russian Railways.

Alexander Misharin also announced the continuation of work on developing a railway construction project for the transportation of coal in the northern part of East Kalimantan and the study of the possibility of upgrading the existing section of the Surabaya-Malang rail section.

Speaking about the work with Vietnamese colleagues, the First Vice-President of Russian Railways named several areas for cooperation, including the modernisation of Vietnam Railways and the establishment of regular rail container transport between Russia and Vietnam.

“We are of course also interested in the project to build two new subway lines in Hanoi,” stressed Alexander Misharin.

The First Vice President also said that the possibility of participation in infrastructure projects in the Philippines was under consideration at the moment.
