Alexander Misharin: "The Ulan Bator Railway has to double freight volumes by 2030"

Alexander Misharin, the First Deputy Managing Director of Russian Railways and Chairman of the Board of the Ulan Bator Railway, has met with Biambasuren Enkh-Amgalan, Mongolia’s Minister of Roads and Transport. Misharin has also taken part in the festivities to mark the 70th anniversary of the Ulan-Bator Railway.

During the meeting, which took place in Mongolia’s capital Ulan Bator, Alexander Misharin and Byamwasuren Enkh-Amgalan discussed the current activities of the Ulan Bator Railway (UBR) and the possibility of increasing the company’s share capital, as well as the future development of Mongolia"s railway network. The parties noted that, thanks to their joint work, significant results had been achieved in recent years in terms of improving the UBR’s economic impact and efficiency.

Aleksandr Misharin also took part in the celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the UBR, at which he read out a congratulatory message from Oleg Belozorov, the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, to his Mongolian colleagues.

"The Ulan Bator Railway celebrates its 70th anniversary as a dynamic national carrier that makes a significant contribution to Mongolia’s social and economic development. During the decades of our shared history, we have created an effective system for cooperation at all levels, from line experts to senior executives. This allows us to offer transport services that meet our customers’ highest expectations," reads the congratulatory address from the head of Russian Railways.

As Chairman of the Board of the Ulan Bator Railway, Alexander Misharin also congratulated his colleagues and noted that UBR faced a serious task to double its volume of freight traffic to 53 million tons by 2030. This would be facilitated by the technical renewal of infrastructure, the introduction of the latest technologies and the use of modern traction and rolling stock.

The Ulan Bator Railway was established in 1949 on the basis of an agreement between the governments of the Soviet Union and the Mongolian People’s Republic, both of which held an equal amount of shares in the new company’s share capital.

Up to July 2004, the shareholder’s authority on behalf of the Russian Federation was exercised by the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Railways and then by Russia’s Federal Rail Transport Agency.

Since December 2009, Russian Railways has held the trustee rights of the Russian stake in the Ulan Bator Railway.
