Passenger traffic on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.7% in May 2018

According to the latest figures, 100.59 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure of Russian Railways in May 2018, 3.7% more than in May 2017. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 92.03 million, an increase of 3.4%, while long-distance passengers were up to 8.56 million, a jump of 7%.

Passenger turnover in May 2018 amounted to 9.67 billion pass-km, 2.3% more than in the same month in 2017. Suburban passenger turnover rose to 2.93 billion passenger-kilometres, an increase of 3.8%, while long-distance passenger turnover was up 1.7% to 6.74 billion passenger-kilometres.

During January-May 2018, a total of 443.9 million passengers were carried, 3.1% up on January-May 2017. Long-distance passengers numbered 38.55 million, a jump of 8.5%, while suburban commuters amounted to 405.36 million, an increase of 2.6%.

Passenger turnover on the network of Russian Railways since the beginning of 2018 increased by 4.2% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 42.53 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover increased to 12.46 billion pass-km, up 3%, while long-distance passenger turnover amounted to 30.07 billion pass-km, an increase of 5.2%.

During January-May 2018, the Moscow Central Ring (MCR) carried 50.2 million passengers, a jump of 22.5%. In May, the MCR transported about 10.8 million people, an increase of 20.4%.

The MCR set a new record for passenger transportation on 16 May 2018, when it transported 449,818 people, the highest figure since it was launched on 10 September 2016.
