Loading at Russian Railways increased by 3.5% in January 2018

According to the latest figures, loading on the network of Russian Railways in January 2018 amounted to 103.5 million tons, 3.5% more than in the same month last year.

Freight turnover in January 2018 increased by 5.6% compared to January 2017 and amounted to 214.8 billion tariff ton-km.

Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 4.4% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 273.8 billion ton-km.

The railways shipped the following goods. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January 2017.

• coal - 31 million tons (-1.1%);
• coke - 0.903 million tons (-3.8%);
• oil and petroleum products - 20.7 million tons (-2.5%);
• iron and manganese ores - 9.2 million tons (+ 4.3%);
• ferrous metals - 6.6 million tons (+ 10.5%);
• ferrous metal scrap - 0.659 million tons (-17.8%);
• chemical and mineral fertilisers - 5.2 million tons (+ 6.3%);
• cement - 1.2 million tons (+ 6.2%);
• timber - 3.4 million tons (+ 5.8%);
• grain - 2.2 million tons (+ 36.6%);
• construction materials - 8.8 million tons (+ 13.3%);
• non-ferrous ores and sulphuric raw materials - 1.6 million tons (unchanged);
• chemicals and soda - 2.4 million tons (+ 2.7%);
• industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 2.8 million tons (+ 5.6%).
