Increase in coal loading for export from ports in South Russia exceeds 35%

Loading volumes of goods on the railway network owned by Russian Railways and destined for export from Russia’s seaports in January-November 2019 amounted to 281.4 million tons, an increase of 3.4% compared to the same period in 2018.

Freight totalling 119.5 million tons were dispatched to Russia’s North-West ports in the 11 months to the end of November, an increase of 3.3% compared to the same period in 2018, while 68.2 million tons were shipped to the southern ports, a slight decline of 0.4%. Consignments to ports in Russia’s Far East were up to 93.7 million tons, an increase of 6.4%.

Coal accounted for 50.6% of the freight export turnover, while oil made up 26.6%, ferrous metals 7% and fertilisers 6.9%.

Since the beginning of the year, the loading of coal for export via sea terminals increased to 142.5 million tons, up 8.8% compared to the same period last year. Russia’s southern ports handled 13.3 million tons of solid fuel for export, an increase of 35.8%, while 49.7 million tons were sent to the North-West ports, up 4.3%. Ports in Russia’s Far East handled 79.5 million tons, which represents growth of 8%.
