CEO Oleg Belozerov sums up Company’s work in first quarter

Oleg Belozerov, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, has held a conference call on the results of the Company’s work in March and in the first quarter of 2019.

Analysing the production figures, Oleg Belozerov noted that in the first quarter, tariff turnover increased by 2.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and by 2.5% taking into account empty runs of private wagons. Over 300 million tons of freight were shipped, 0.7% more than last year.

In January-March, passenger turnover on the infrastructure ownd by Russian Railways increased by 2.7%. Long-distance passenger turnover was up by 2.5%, while suburban turnover grew by 3.3%. The number of passengers dispatched increased by 3.5% over the same period last year.

During the meeting, Oleg Belozerov also reported on the organisation of historical and educational exhibitions at railway stations in Russia.

The exhibitions are in fulfillment of instructions from the President of the Russian Federation and have been arranged in cooperation with the Russian Historical Society and the Institute of Russian History at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The exhibition of the project "Historical Baggage" will be designed in the form of interactive multimedia displays, which will allow passengers to gain a detailed acquaintance with the history, geography, memorable places and wonderful people of the places along their route.

"Our goal is to interest our passengers, to encourage them to become more familiar with the history of the places through which they pass," said the Company CEO. "At first, the exhibitions will be at the Leningradsky railway station and Tver and Vyshny Volochyok stations, followed by 10 other stations between Moscow and St. Petersburg before 1 June 2019. By the beginning of July, exhibitions should be held at a number of stations along the Baikal Amur Main Line."
