Russian Railways and Chinese Railways agree to joint development of market for high-speed China-Russia-Europe freight rail services

Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, and Lu Dongfu, Managing Director of the Chinese Railways Corporation, have signed a memorandum on the organisation of high-speed cross-border rail freight shipments between China-Russia-Europe.

The memorandum was signed on 8 June 2018 in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on a high-speed train en route between Beijing and Tianjin.

In particular, the parties agreed to the joint development of the market for the transportation of conventional physical goods, logistics services for cross-border electronic retail commerce and express-delivery services between China-Russia-Europe.

OJSC Russian Railways and the corporation Chinese Railways also intend to work on the analysis of the freight transportation market for cross-border e-commerce and international mail between China-Russia-Europe, forecasting traffic volumes and the design of transport engineering products.

As operators responsible for the implementation of specific projects in accordance with the memorandum, Chinese Railways will appoint the company China Railway Express, while Russian Railways will delegate the work to RZD Logistics, which will use the services of the Federal Passenger Company, another subsidiary of Russian Railways.
