Russian Railways and Sakha (Yakutia) sign agreement on cooperation

Russian Railways and the government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) have signed an agreement on mutual cooperation for the two years from 2018 to 2020.

The document was signed in Yakutsk, the capital of Sakha (Yakutia), on 14 May 2018 by the head of Far Eastern Railways Nikolai Maklygin and the chairman of the government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Yevgeni Chekin.

The agreement defines possible future areas for cooperation between Russian Railways and the authorities of subjects of the Russian Federation with regard to increasing the freight base, passenger transportation, the implementation of investment projects and the provision of social support to the population.

The main freight transported through Yakutia is coal. Last year, the loading volume amounted to 7.3 million tons. During the four months to the end of April 2018, 2 million tons were loaded.

Railway passenger communications in the region is provided by four long-distance trains, which in 2017 were used by 75,000 people.

The quality of services provided to passengers using Neryungri railway station is improving, which is on the balance sheet of the Far Eastern Regional Railway Station Directorate. In recent years, 3 million roubles have been invested in its development, with another 10 million roubles to be invested by 2020.
