Free Wi-Fi service will be available at 136 railway stations by start of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™

At present, work is underway to install a Wi-Fi network and connect it to the Internet at 29 suburban stations and stopping platforms in the Moscow, Leningrad, Kaliningrad, Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk, Rostov and Volgograd oblasts, the Republic of Tatarstan and other regions in the country.

In the near future, the Wi-Fi network will operate at the suburban stations Kaliningrad-Severny, Svetlogorsk-2, Zelenogradsk, Bologoe-Moscow, Chudovo-Moscow, Vyshny Volochek, Rzhev-Baltiysky, Strelna, Pavlovsk, Novy Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo, Malaya Vishera, Klin, Sviyazhsk, Rostov-Main, Aksai, Pridacha, Volgograd-2, Srednevolzhskaya, Kungur and Verkhny Ufaley, as well as at the suburban pavilion at Tushino (Moscow) and the station buildings at Bataysk and Vasilyevo-Petrovskaya. The Wi-Fi network will also soon be installed at the stations and stops Aeroport in Saint-Petersburg, Vekovka in Vladimir oblast, Matsesta and Olympic Village in Sochi and Pervomaiskaya in Yekaterinburg.

To use the free Wi-Fi service at the stations, passengers will need to go through the authorisation process just once, after which the mobile device will connect automatically at any station included in the unified Wi-Fi network.

By the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ it will be possible to obtain the network’s authorisation by using the train’s ticket number. International fans will be verified on their first connection to the network and will then be able to use the Internet at the stations in the cities hosting the World Cup games.

In addition, in May 2018, OJSC Russian Railways will also begin offering its customers a free service for downloading entertainment content using the "Poputchik" – "Fellow Passenger" app.

In cooperation with the company TransTeleCom, OJSC Russian Railways has been implementing jointly a project to provide free Wi-Fi at railway stations since 2015O.

At the moment, the wireless Internet service is available at 107 major railway stations in 83 localities of the country and enjoys great popularity, with the total number of connections exceeding 5.5 million. By the end of 2018, the number of stations offering Wi-Fi will be expanded.
