Passenger traffic on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.9% in October 2017

According to the latest figures, 97.85 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways in October 2017, up 3.9% from October 2016. Suburban passenger numbers increased to 89.96 million, a rise of 3.8%, while long distance passengers were up to 7.9 million, an increase of 5%.

Passenger turnover in October 2017 amounted to 9.23 billion pass-km, 0.7% more than during October 2016. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 2.8 billion passenger-km, a decline of 0.1%, while passenger turnover on long-distance trains increased to 6.5 billion pass-km, up 1%.

In total, 932.9 million passengers travelled during January-October 2017, up 8.5% compared to January-October 2016. Long-distance trains carried 86.8 million passengers, 0.1% more than in January-October 2016, while suburban numbers increased 9.4% to 846.1 million.

Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways since the beginning of 2017 decreased by 2% compared to last year and amounted to 105.5 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover was up to 26.8 billion pass-km, an increase of 3%, while long-distance turnover fell to 78.7 billion pass-km, a decline of 3.5%.

During January-October 2017, the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) carried 89 million passengers, including about 10.9 million journeys in October.

On 18 October 2017, a new record was set for passenger transportation on the MCC, when it carried 428,833 people, the highest figure since it opened on 10 September 2016.
